About Our Program

The family is the original cell of social life. It is the natural society in which husband and wife are called to give themselves in love and in the gift of life. The Christian family is a communion of persons, a reflection and image of the communion of the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit. In the procreation and education of children it reflects the Father's work of creation. The family is the community in which, from childhood, one can learn moral values, begin to honor God, and make good use of freedom. Family life is an initiation into life in society. (CCC No. 2205-2207)

St. Joseph’s Religious Education Department is excited to announce that we will be moving to a Family Faith Catechesis; this program equips the parents to teach the faith to their own children. While we are very blessed to be in the position of teaching your children and calling them onto Sainthood, we acknowledge the very profound and privileged role families play in catechesis. Family Catechesis has implications for parents in the journey with their children in religious education programs, not only to receive the sacraments, but in an ongoing formation in their homes and an ongoing conversion within their souls. It empowers parents to be the main catechist in the lives of their children.

Non-Sacramental Religious Education

We welcome non-sacramental students, grades K-6, to keep coming! Parents will be part of the family catechesis, and children will be part of Blue Knights/Little Flowers, a youth group where kids learn more about their faith and have fun in a non-classroom setting. Children and their parents will meet two times a month on Saturday mornings from 8:15-10:00 in the school.

First Holy Communion

1st Communicants and their parents will meet two times a month on Saturday mornings from 8:15-10:00 in the school. Parents will be taught how to implement the faith into their homes while the children are receiving sacramental instruction in their classrooms. It is mandatory that at least one parent attends each class

Please note: It is mandatory that at least one parent attends each class. In their classes, parents will learn material necessary to then teach their children about the faith in their homes. Parents will also be responsible for making sure their children have completed all the lessons at home, learn what is needed for the monthly exams (in English and/or in Spanish) and complete all the homework. Parents will receive all materials at the parent meeting in August.

Parent Meeting is August 24th at 8:15am in the school.

Pre-Confirmation and Confirmation

Pre-Confirmation and Confirmation students will still meet weekly, Wednesdays OR Thursdays evenings from 7:00-8:30 in the school. Parents will have classes twice a month, again learning how to implement the faith in their homes. We have a 20 student max for each class; parishioners will be given first priority, and then it is on a first come basis.
